The Fleet 9 annual trip to Half Moon Bay on Labor Day Weekend is just around
the corner. We currently have 3 boats signed up for this cruise.

The 3 day weekend plan has us leaving Saturday morning. Is anyone interested
in making it a 4 day weekend and going down on Friday?
For the 3 day weekend plan we will meet at the Golden Gate Bridge at 8:00 AM
Saturday morning. This gets us out the gate at slack current before the
flood starts to slow us down. This should also give us a smooth trip over
the bar.

4.1 Flood @ 11:05 AM
Once we are out the gate there was some talk about going out to the
Faralones, then heading to HMB. Here is the breakdown of the 2 route
options.
1. The short route: Turn right and follow the coast south to HMB. If
the seas are flat, we will head out over the South Shoal, otherwise we will
follow the shipping channel over the bar and then head south. From the
bridge we usually plan 4.5 hours to get onto the HMB harbor, putting us
there by 1:00 PM.
2. The long route: Head straight out to the Faralone Islands, round
East Faralone to port, then head to HMB. This is a 27 mile trip to the
Faralones, assuming a 5 knot average speed will put us at the islands around
1:30 PM. From there it is 28 miles to HMB buoy #1, plus 2 miles into the
harbor. This would have the arrival around 7:00 PM.
Migration will be following option 1 and taking the short route so we can
have some time to spend in HMB on Saturday. Let me know if you want to take
the long route and will volunteer to lead the boats around the island.
We could plan to eat out at a restaurant one night - and do a "bring what
you have on the boat" pot luck the other night. Last year we scored a whole
albacore from one of the fishing boats in the marina that fed 6 of us for
the weekend. The HMBYC has dinners of sausages & hamburgers ($10) on
Saturday, and kabobs ($20 paid in advance) on Sunday. Check out their web
site www.hmbyc.org <http://www.hmbyc.org/> for details if you are
interested. There are a number of good restaurants to choose from within
walking distance of the harbor. Plan on at least one breakfast at Ketch
Joanne's too!
Monday morning departure should be around 9:00 AM. This should get us back
to the Gate by 1:00 PM and still be riding the flood current.
Currents @ the Gate for Monday
Slack @ 09:19 AM
3.7 Flood @ 12:12 PM
Slack @ 03:15 PM
We will be communicating on VHF channel 72 and monitoring channel 16
Let me know if you are planning to go, and if you are headed out on Friday
or Saturday.
